A Thousand Splendid Suns is a novel about two womens with different age,background,and place in late Afghanistan who share an unbreakable bond.This novel divided into four main chapter.First chapter about Mariam,who was born an illegitimate child in 1959 and was forced to married to a man from Kabul when she was 15. Her husband was abusive and cruel.In Kabul, Mariam becomes pregnant seven successive times, but is never able to carry a child to term, and Rasheed gradually becomes more abusive.The second chapter talks about a girl named Laila and a boy named Tariq, who are close friends,who stayed in same neighbourhood with Mariam.Laila was born just before the Russian invasion and had dreams of a life of education and travel. A bomb kills most of her family and she recovers from her wounds in Mariam's house,and Mariam's husband has his eyes on Laila.The third chapter is about war in Afghanistan, and Kabul is bombarded by rocket attacks. Tariq's family decides to leave the city, and the emotional farewell between Laila and Tariq ends with them making love. Laila's family also decides to leave Kabul, but before that a rocket destroys the house, kills her parents, and severely injures Laila. Laila is taken in by Rasheed and Mariam. After recovering from her injuries, Laila discovers that she is pregnant with Tariq's child. Laila, who has been told that Tariq is dead, agreed to marry Rasheed, who is eager to have second wife, and hopes to pass her unborn child off as his and she gives birth to a daughter. Rasheed is unhappy and suspicious, and he soon becomes abusive toward Laila. Mariam and Laila eventually become confidants.Fourth chapter is about Tariq and Laila.One day, Tariq appears outside the house. He and Laila are reunited, and their passions flare anew and they leave to pakistan few days later.And Mariam killed her husband. Along with Mariam and Laila,Hossein had talked about old cultural of Afghanistan ,terrific taliban hospital, and religious too.

    Very interesting read! I just can't imagine how Mariam has suffered through out her life by marrying that devil husband. Mariam action is commendable, such a courageous and brave lady..Is this a true story?

    I am on your followers list already :)Sounds very interesting and has that typical Khaled touch,I enjoyed the movie kite runner based on the his book which is based on a true story.Hopefully I will get a chance to read this one:)
